This will reduce the amount of negative points at the end of the round. This means you need to play as many of the cards in your Foot as possible since the other player is likely to go out soon. If you see that another player has a Red and a Black Book and is in their Foot, it is time to ‘Evacuate the Foot’. Continue to organize your hand by melds, pairs, wild cards and ranked cards as the discard strategy is the same as when you are in your Hand. Try not to place wild cards into Red melds until you are ready to go out. When you are in your Foot, the first strategy is to start forming Red and Black Books as soon as possible. The ultimate goals are to create options by forming different types of melds and books and to pick-up your Foot as soon as possible. The only time you should deviate from this strategy is if there are cards in the Discard Pile that you can effectively use and you need to play melds to pick them up (see Discard Pile Pickup Rules under the Rules menu). The best strategy is to wait to play any wild card until you are ready to ‘ Run’ or ‘ Walk’ into your Foot. When you are in your Hand, avoid playing Black Melds too early as these require a wild card. Try to group pairs of cards into Red Melds by drawing at least one more of that type of card (this frees up the wild card(s) to be used for Black Melds). As you continue to draw, discard the lowest ranked single cards first. Group the cards in between from the highest to lowest rank. Keep 3s to the right as they should be discarded first. Always try to keep playable cards including melds, pairs of cards and wild cards on the left side of your current set (this can be done automatically by pressing ‘SORT’). If a player left of the current dealer is eliminated in a round, the eliminated player will still deal the next round to give the player to his/her left a chance to lead the first trick.The key to winning Hand and Foot is creating as many melds and books as possible. The dealer moves clockwise left after each round. The player with the highest card will choose the trump for the next round.
If two or more players tie for the most tricks won in a round, both players will cut the deck. The player that wins the most tricks in a round gets to choose the trump suit for the next round. Player’s must play a card in the same suit of the lead card whenever possible. After the dog’s life has been used, any player that doesn’t win a trick in a later round is eliminated from the game immediately. If multiple players don’t win a trick in the same round, and the dog’s life hasn’t been used, both players get one card in the next round. If the player fails to win a trick with the one card, he/she is eliminated from the game.
If the player wins a trick with the one card, he/she is back in the game with a normal hand in the next round. The player can then decide which trick to play the one card on in the next round. This means the player is still in the game, but only gets dealt one card in the next round.
The first player to go without winning a trick get’s a dog’s life. If a player does not win a trick during the round, the player is knocked out of the game with one exception. At the end of the round, the player that wins the most tricks gets to determine the trump suit of the next round. The player that wins the trick leads the next trick. Each player must play a card in the same suit as the card that was led whenever possible. The player left of the dealer will lead the first trick. If no trump suited cards were played, the highest ranking card in the lead suit would win the trick.
A trick is created by each player playing a card into the middle, and the highest ranking trump suited card wins the trick. If you don’t win a trick during a round, you are knocked out of the game. The object of the game is to win at least one trick during a round. Each subsequent round, the amount of cards dealt is reduced by one, and the winner of the previous round determines the trump suit. The top card of the remaining deck is flipped up to determine the trump suit for the first round. Each player is dealt seven cards in the first round.
